Browse The New American Canon: The Iowa Series in Contemporary Literature and Culture
Samuel Cohen, series editor
The New American Canon publishes books of criticism that consider their objects primarily as creative works that are themselves of aesthetic value, rather than merely as documents or symptoms. Featuring academic writers, critics who work outside of universities, and creative writer/critics, the New American Canon will be home to well-written criticism that explores contemporary literary works of all genres (as well as film and non-narrative arts) in themselves and as products of and comments on the culture from which they come, enabling us to better understand that culture. While remaining informed by theory, the series pushes beyond it to meet art on its own terms. In doing so, the works in the series will start new critical conversations and find new ways to read the works of the new American canon.
