From the Heartland
Over the course of his career as a Farm Security Administration supervisor and, later, a freelance photographer, A. M. “Pete” Wettach (1901-1976) took thousands of pictures of friends, neighbors, family members, and clients throughout the Midwest. A sampling of his brilliant portraits of twentieth-century farm life was captured for the first time in A Bountiful Harvest: The Midwestern Farm Photographs of Pete Wettach, 1925-1965 (Iowa, 2002), which garnered instant regional and national acclaim.
Responding to the request for more of Wettach’s photographs from readers and bookstore owners alike, the University of Iowa Press is proud to introduce From the Heartland: A Postcard Book of Photographs by Pete Wettach. This book of thirty black-and-white postcards—each one printed on heavy card stock and perforated for easy removal—features favorite images from A Bountiful Harvest as well as new images from Wettach's extensive collection.
